A Place to Connect

This website is the result of much hard work, hair stretching, and code-wrangling from our resident Special Projects whiz, Michael Scullen.  I asked Mike to create a place where Calgary Arts Development could put forward a professional face to the community, but also be a dynamic centre for interaction with the community.  As you can see from the posts that are starting to accumulate from the team, you can expect this place to be both formal and informal, touching on "important" and "unimportant" topics.I've asked that everyone working with us (contractors and staff alike) make an attempt to write something for this site on a regular basis.  As the President & CEO, I'll admit that I've worried about blogging potentially looking "unprofessional."  But I've decided that there is nothing more professional than putting forward an authentic voice.  The reality of business in 2005 is that only those who make real connections with their customers and stakeholders, and truly get what matters to those people, will have long term success.  This site is just one way we'll do that.As a small startup organization, it seems to me that Calgary Arts Development should be making a concerted effort to use the latest thinking on management and technology to help us achieve our goals.  That's why you'll always see us in an open office, using laptops and wireless internet whenever possible.  That's why you'll see spontaneous meetings around whiteboards (and, ok, pub tables) as "all minds" are brought forward to think about an issue.  That's why you'll see us making every effort to be open and transparent.  And that's why you'll be able to have conversations with us right here, 24/7.The things you read on this website won't all be perfect prose and deep thinking.  But I think I speak for the team when I say that what you read here will be things we care about, and it will come straight from us: A team of people passionate about the arts, and passionate about our city.
