About Evil Dead: the Musical:
For those who don't know, this hilarious live stage show takes all the elements of the cult classic horror films, Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness then combines them to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time.
Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It's all up to Ash (a housewares employee, turned demon killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons are telling bad jokes... and all to music.
The songs in the show are completely off the wall as well. Titles like "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons" and "What the F*@k was That" will have you rolling in your seats, and screaming for more and more blood.
You don't need to be a fan of Evil Dead to love this show. You don't need to be a fan of horror to love this show. You don't even need to be a fan of musicals to love this show. As long as you like having fun... this show is for you.

Theatre Encounter: Call for Dancers

Audition Notice: Theatre Encounter

Call for Dancers for fall 2012 program:

MERGE: A Dance & Theatre Creation

“Merge: A Dance & Theatre Creation” is a training and creation opportunity for pre‐professional artists. It is a collaboration of styles, techniques, and approaches between dance and theatre. It will finalize in a production of Heart of Darkness at Theatre Junction Grand, a major venue downtown.
Heart of Darkness leapt into popularity with Francis Ford Coppala’s Vietnam war‐movie Apocalypse Now, heavily based on the book. This creation piece will re‐render the classic literature text into dance choreography & movement, with themes of life vs. death, colonialism & imperialistic conquest, and the internal quest of the self.

We are specifically seeking dancers, or actors with a dance background. This show will be a merge of theatre and dance, so although some dancers will only dance, there is an opportunity to learn physical theatre. We will be exploring experimental dance and theatre. Theatre Encounter is also seeking new company members, to be part of an ensemble.

Merge will offer training in movement / physical theatre techniques. Then it will go into a full production and rehearsals for the show. Dancers should be well versed in dance (ie Modern / Post‐Modern / experimental dance technique is of interest). The director will be coming from a methodology rooted in Grotowski work, ecstatic dance, Indian Cho dance principles, Odin Teatret’s work, Authentic Movement, somatic inquiry, and Motivity.
The show is currently slated for performance in November 2012, at the Theatre Junction Grand.

This is an incredible chance to work experimentally on a major production.

If you are interested in auditioning, or becoming a company member, email us a very brief introduction about yourself and your interests, and attach a good‐quality headshot and resume. Please name your file attachments as: “yourname‐actingresume.doc” or “yourname‐headshot.jpg”. Alternatively you can post it to our mailing address. See the website for further info on what to prepare.

Auditions: April 19th (eve) and April 21st (morning), 2012.
